The popularity of restomodded muscle cars has absolutely exploded in recent years, giving rise to a number of now-world-renowned customs shops like Ringbrothers and Speedkore. Unfortunately, the influx in interest in builds from these type of shops means that — even if money is no object — commissioning your own build often means getting in line in a multiyear waiting list. And this is a big part of why this soon-to-be-auctioned-off Dodge Charger restomod is so noteworthy, as, not only is it an incredibly elite build, but it will also allow one lucky buyer to skip the line and get behind the wheel of their dream machine markedly sooner.

Known as “Dumbo,” this spare-no-expense restomod is based on a 1968 Charger. The project’s monicker is derived from its builder’s choice of powertrain — a supercharged 7.0-liter Hellephant V8 that’s good for a whopping 1,000hp and an equally ridiculous 950ft-lbs of torque. This crate engine has been paired with a Bowler Stage II T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission, a Strange S60 rear end with 4.10:1 gears, and a TTi exhaust system. Upgrades to the project’s running gear include a set of Wilwood disc brakes, Rushforth alloy wheels, and Magnum Force suspension with Viking coil overs.

Cloaked in a Destroyer Gray paint job, the exterior of the Dodge has been treated to a sleeker front-end with X LED headlights, Ringbrothers billet door handles, and a revised rear-end with circular Digi-tails LED taillights. The Charger’s cabin has also been hugely reworked and now boasts fully-bespoke upholstery throughout, a custom center console, and a split-spoke three-arm steering wheel. While its attention to detail may not be quite on par with some of the world’s leading restomod builders, it’s nonetheless an extremely impressive project that can undoubtedly go toe-to-toe with just about any other restomodded muscle car out there in terms of performance.

The 1968 Dodge Charger “Dumbo” custom is slated to cross the auction block at Mecum’s upcoming Las Vegas 2022 sale running from November 10th through the 12th. As of the time of writing, no estimate or valuation has been given for the car, though we expect the Charger to fetch somewhere in the six-figure ballpark.
